A Century on King Street
The Conservatory on King occupies a designated heritage building at 137–147 King Street East in downtown Kitchener. Built in 1922, it has housed local shops, music studios, union offices, and community gathering spaces for more than a century.
Over the decades, its storefronts housed businesses ranging from clothing and shoe shops to furniture retailers. Upstairs, the Kitchener Conservatory of Music operated from the mid-1940s until 1974. Founded by local musician and educator George Henry Ziegler, the conservatory offered instruction in instruments, voice, and music theory. The Conservatory on King takes its name from this musical connection.
Woodhouse Group is now converting the upper two floors into loft-style residential rental suites, with commercial retail spaces on the ground floor. The Conservatory on King will continue the building’s longstanding role as a place for people and businesses in downtown Kitchener.
The Conservatory on King
The Conservatory on King is an upcoming development bringing modern residential rental suites and commercial retail spaces to the heart of Downtown Kitchener. With a vision for beautifully composed city living, it will bring together homes and businesses in a setting that connects residents to the neighbourhood around them. A new place to live, shop, and be part of life in Downtown Kitchener.
